Monica Vaughan Calavitta is Sam’s wife of twenty years. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies and received her multiple subject teaching credential from Chapman University in 1993. Her student teaching assignments were completed in kindergarten and fourth grades and she has both taught and directed at the pre-school level. Monica became one of the original Momsquad bloggers for a local magazine in Orange County, California in 2008 and enjoyed writing for OC Family during her tenure as “Mom of 9.”

Monica feels privileged to be able to announce that she is a “stay at home” mom. She and Sam have nine children, ranging in age from twenty down to two years. The greatest joys she has experienced have been in raising a family and watching the children continue to strive to reach their fullest potentials.

In writing this book, Monica worked closely with Sam to be sure each narrative represented his individual student’s story exactly. It is her hope that the stories will be constant and living reminders that all people have the opportunity to make a positive difference in the world around them.
